Description: Claudia Rankine was born in Kingston, Jamaica. Her most recent book, Don’t Let Me Be Lonely (Graywolf, 2004), moves between essay, lyric and TV imagery in a ruthless examination of contemporary American culture. Robert Creeley calls it, ''The most articulate and moving testament to the bleak times we live in I’ve yet seen. It’s a master work in every sense, and altogether her own.'' Rankine is the author of three other books of poetry, including Plot (Grove Press, 2001). She is also the 2005 recipient of the Academy Fellowship, given by the Academy of American Poets for ''distinguished achievement at mid-career.'' She teaches in the writing program at the University of Houston.
