''Federico Fellini and the Transformation of Italian Culture''

- with reception to follow -

GIANNI CELATI, who began his career at the University of Bologna and has held numerous visiting positions in France and the United States, is a leading European intellectual. Celati's prize-winning books have been translated into many languages, including Narratori delle pianure(Voices from the Plains), Quattro novelle sulle apparenze (Appearances), and Avventura in Africa (Adventure in Africa) in English. University of Chicago professor Rebecca J. West published his literary biography, Gianni Celati: the Craft of Everyday Storytelling, in 2000.

For the Binder lecture, Celati will examine the ways in which Federico Fellini's films portrayed his deep understanding of the transformation of Italian culture in the late twentieth century.

The James K. Binder Lectureship in Literature is made possible by Mr. Binder's generous bequest and honors his wishes that we bring leading European intellectuals to UCSD to provide a forum for rigorous discussions of literary topics.
Free and open to the public.
No reservations required.

Please contact Patricia Valiton, 858-534-4618 or pvaliton@ucsd.edu, for any necessary accommodations to enable your access and participation.
