Description: Daniel Gecshwind, MD, PhD, Professor of Neurology & Psychiatry, University of California, Los Angeles. Will speak on Understanding Humans: From Genes to Brains and Diseases Dr. Geschwind is interested in the understanding genetic basis of human cognitive specializations, autism and neurodegenerative diseases. His laboratory uses a combination of genetic and neurobiological methods and frequently collaborates with laboratories with expertise in other disciplines, such as cognitive psychology, stem cells, neuroimaging, statistics and linguistics. His work has led to new insight into the genetic basis of autism, developmental vulnerability in neurodegeneration, and brain evolution in primates
