Description: ''Making it Worse: How the US Government has Tackled the Immigration Problem - Wrongly'' Professor George Borja's research on the economic impact of immigration is widely perceived as playing a central role in the debate over immigration policy in the United States and abroad. Both Business Week and The Wall Street Journal have called him ''America's leading immigration economist.''

As he reveals in his latest book ''Heaven's Door: Immigration Policy and the American Economy'' it's decidedly mixed news for the American economy - and positively bad news for the poorest citizens in that the benenfits of immigration have been greatly exaggerated. If we allow immigration to continue unabated and unmodified, we are supporting an astonishing transfer of wealth from the poorest people in the country, who are disproportionately minorities, to the richest.

Borjas was born in Havana, Cuba and received his Ph.D. in 1975 from Columbia University. Prior to moving to Harvard in 1995, he was professor of Economics at UCSD.
