Description: Designs in Motion, a show featuring metalsmithing and jewelry work by Tara Magboo and Jacqueline Gore, will open August 4th in the Grove Gallery located at the UCSD Crafts Center. The opening reception will be on Saturday, August 5th from 6pm-9pm and the exhibit will close on Saturday, August 26th.

Interested in building and creating, Tara Magboo has always had a definite inclination toward art and design since she was a child. Naturally she went on to study Illustration at the prestigious art institute, The Rhode Island School of Design where she also discovered her love for jewelry. Eager to continue her education, Tara is currently enrolled in the graduate program at San Diego State University pursuing her Master of Fine Arts degree in jewelry and metalsmithing. Tara’s experience thus far at SDSU has broadened her technical and conceptual vocabulary taking full advantage of the possibilities of the metals medium.

A native Californian, Jacqueline Gore had found ample inspiration in nature. One can readily see the waves of the sea in her fluid shapes, and the spirit of leaves fluttering in the sun. Her professional training includes a Bachelor of Arts from San Diego State University’s School of Art and Design. In addition to creating jewelry, she also teaches art to children hoping to be an inspiration to young minds. Presently, she works at the Art Academy in Downtown as a jewelry instructor. Her goal is to create a more joyful and exciting world by celebrating the beauty that is around us.

Designs in Motion features pieces that exemplify the artists’ respective inspirations and skill levels. By using precious metals as the primary medium, Magboo and Gore have created delightful jewelry and metal sculpture mirroring the nuances of nature, from Magboo’s interpretation of grass and birds in silver to Gore’s hints of a dynamic ocean in her pieces. Many of the artists’ pieces are available for purchase.

The exhibit and reception are open to the public and are both free events. The Grove Gallery hours are Tuesday through Friday, 10am –3pm and Saturday 10am-2pm. The Crafts Center is located in the Student Center at Revelle College on the UCSD Campus off of Eucalyptus Grove Lane. Parking information and directions are available at the Visitor Information Booth on Gilman Drive. Additional information can be obtained by calling (858) 534-2021 or visiting www-crafts.ucsd.edu.
