| Description: | Scripps Institution of Oceanography’s sixth annual Nierenberg Prize for Science in the Public Interest will be awarded to technology innovator Gordon Moore on September 14, 2006. Moore cofounded Intel Corporation in 1968 and is widely known for “Moore’s Law,” in which he predicted that the number of transistors that could be placed on a computer chip would double every two years. Moore’s Law became the guiding principle for the entire computer industry to deliver ever-more-powerful semiconductor chips at an ever-lower cost. |
