Description: This conference will address the past, present and future of research and policy analysis in US-Mexican migration. The event will also be held in honor of Dr. Jorge Bustamante and Dr. Wayne Cornelius whose pioneering work was crucial not only to the development of research in international migration, but also for the creation of solid academic institutions in Mexico and the United States. Dr. Bustamante is an expert in the field of international migration with over 200 publications in scholarly journals, primarily dealing with Mexican immigration to the United States and the US-Mexico border phenomenon. He is also the founder of El Colegio de la Frontera Norte. Dr. Cornelius is a leading authority on Mexican migration to the United States and on migration patterns in Europe and Japan. He is the founder of UCSD’s Center for U.S.-Mexican Studies and the Center for Comparative Immigration Studies. They will joined by a distinguished panel of peers to discuss issues in U.S.-Mexican migration and the contribution of those being honored. Panelists include: -Gilberto Cárdenas: Director, Institute of Latino Studies, University of Notre Dame -Manuel García y Griego: Director, SW Hispanic Research Institute, University of New Mexico -Tonatiuh Guillén: President, El Colegio de la Frontera Norte -José Angel Pescador: Former Mexican Consul-General in Los Angeles There is no cost for admission.
