We would like to invite Greeks and the rest of the student body to participate in an environmental community service project. Under the guidance of Professor Oscar Romo, we are taking a team of students and faculty to the San Bernardo colonia in Mexico to build pervious pavers. Pervious pavers are a form of environmentally-friendly infrastructure--an alternative type of street covering, shaped like cobblestones, that will help prevent erosion. The San Bernardo community needs about 70,000 pavers; they've created about 30,000 so far. Given the recent heavy rains, the need has only become more urgent. This is an opportunity for students interested in service, environmental studies and green technology, social justice, and international awareness to promote these aims beyond the UCSD campus.
