| Description: | The second annual sustainability forum for business leaders will be held at the San Diego Natural History Museum on February 4, 2009, from 8 AM to 6 PM. The forum will provide case studies from several local companies about how making environmentally conscious choices can decrease expenses, create competitive advantages, and increase a company’s earnings. The forum also provides opportunities for local business to network and learn about the most recent trends in sustainable practices. The price is $50 per person and includes lunch at the San Diego Zoo and a closing reception at the Museum. Further information, including online registration, is available at www.sdnhm.org/sustainability. Business leaders, employers, and students are invited to attend.
The forum is designed for members of the business community to learn examples of companies that have managed a successful marriage of sustainable practices and profit margins. The morning session will include panel sessions on water, energy, and greening the supply chain, featuring representatives from local companies that have benefited by addressing these issues. The keynote speaker is Fred Krupp, founder of the Environmental Defense Fund (EDF) and author of Earth: The Sequel. EDF is a leading national nonprofit organization representing over 500,000 members. Krupp is recognized as a champion of harnessing market forces for environmental ends, such as the market-based acid-rain reduction plan in the 1990 Clean Air Act that The Economist hailed as “the greatest green success story of the past decade.” Lunch will be at the San Diego Zoo and will include a presentation by Qualcomm on their newest nature-inspired display screen, Mirasol. Following lunch, breakout sessions will provide opportunities for more focused conversations. Topics include: financial resources, training, regulations and permits, and San Diego’s emerging CleanTech sector, and a status update on AB 32 (California Global Warming Solutions Act). The event, which will be held at the San Diego Natural History Museum in Balboa Park, is presented by UC San Diego Environment and Sustainability Initiative, San Diego Zoo, California Center for Sustainable Energy, the City of San Diego, CleanTech, San Diego Regional Economic Development Corporation, San Diego Regional Chamber of Commerce, and the San Diego Natural History Museum. |
