Description: Col. Ann Wright resigned from the US diplomatic corps in March, 2003 in opposition to the Bush administration's war on Iraq. Having served 29 years in the US Army/Army Reserves, Wright will talk about The Costs of War on Women including the use of Sexual Assault and Rape in war and additionally, the Rape and Murder of Women in the Military. Col Wright received the State Department's award for heroism in the evacuation of 2500 persons from the coup in Sierra Leone in 1997. She was on the small team that reopened the US Embassy in Kabul, Afghanistan in December, 2001 and served in Afghanistan for 5 months. She resigned from the US government in March, 2003 in opposition to the Iraq war. Since then, she has been writing and speaking out for peace. She fasted for a month, picketed at Guantánamo on US torture policies, served as a juror in impeachment hearings, traveled to Iran as a citizen diplomat, and has been arrested numerous times for peaceful, nonviolent protest of Bush's policies, particularly the war on Iraq. She was in Iran for ten days in late 2008 as a citizen-diplomat and returned from ten days in Gaza on February 8.
