Description: Inspired by innovative American artist Alexander Calder, the Calder Quartet’s desire to bring immediacy and context to the works they perform creates an artfully crafted musical experience. Performing with “great bristling energy” (Los Angeles Times) and bulletproof technique, the ensemble always strives to channel the true intention of the work’s creator. The group’s distinctive approach is exemplified by a musical curiosity brought to everything they perform. Ben Jacobson, violin; Andrew Bulbrook, violin; Eric Byers, cello; Jonathan Moerschel, viola. PROGRAM: Ludwig van Beethoven: String Quartet No. 11 in F minor, “Serioso,” Op. 95; Thomas Adès: The Four Quarters; Béla Bartók: String Quartet No. 5 in B flat major, Sz. 102, BB 110. ArtTalks! at The Loft (6:45pm) Pre-performance conversation with the artists.
