| Description: | Steven Schick conducts the orchestra in a fascinating collage of opposites in a concert titled “Repeat/Move On,” the fourth in a season inspired by Wallace Stegner’s Pulitzer Prize-winning novel, Angle of Repose. We begin with a beautiful overture to the French film “La Belle et La Bête” (Beauty and the Beast) by Philip Glass, the American master of repeating phrases, and conclude with Aaron Copland’s flowing essay on eternal growth and renewal, “Appalachian Spring.” These two works frame the rhythmic vitality of Bay Area composer Paul Dresher’s “Concerto for Quadrachord” (an instrument of his own device) in a regional premiere, and a world premiere by this year’s Thomas Nee Commission recipient, Yiheng Yvonne Wu. Free pre-concert lecture one hour prior to each performance. Free parking. |
