Description: Smart Power brings together history, personal stories, and today's political environment to present a possbility for international relations between soft power and outright war. Whiton draws on leaked classified government cables to reveal the back stories in globally-reaching events. He describes what is not said in the press about China's attack on U.S. security, and our relationships with Israel, Japan, and Taiwan. He proposes that moderate Muslims are far more effective at challenging Islamists than drones, and a radical reform of America's national security approach. Christian Whiton has extensive experience with international business, finance, politics, and foreign policy issues. Prior to joining DCIA as a principal, Mr. Whiton served the U.S. State Department from 2003-2009, first as a special advisor to the Under Secretary of State for Global Affairs, and then as a deputy special envoy. Prior to that, Mr. Whiton worked for the corporate finance practice of KPMG LLP, as a senior associate, overseeing mergers and acquisitions and capital-raising. Mr. Whiton earned undergraduate degrees in History and Economics from Tulane University. He holds an MBA from the UCLA Anderson School of Management. Mr. Whiton writes and speaks frequently about business and foreign policy issues, appearing on the Fox News Channel, CNBC, CNN, BBC, and other networks. His articles have been published by the Wall Street Journal, Washington Post, Time, Daily Caller, Huffington Post, and others.
