Description: In a world of tweets and algorithms and pageless digital downloads, bookstores are not a dying anachronism.They are living, breathing organisms that continue to grow and expand. In fact, there are more of them this year than there were last year. And they are at your service. So, please join the UC San Diego Bookstore for a series of special California Bookstore Day literary events. (1) 10:30am: special California Bookstore Day edition of Coffee & Book Chat with book buyer, Seth Marko; (2) 11:00am: California-themed storytime for kids followed by a CBD-themed craft time; (3) 11:30am-4:00pm: Open mic in Perks coffee shop starting with a reading of George Saunders' commencement speech, Congratulations By the Way; (4) 11:30: Live music from Scott Paulson & the Teeny-Tiny Pit Orchestra; (5) 12:30pm: Scotch Wichmann, artist & author of Two Performance Artists Kidnap Their Boss and Do Things with Him will discuss performance art and sign his new book. (Scotch is well-known for recently being plagiarized by actor Shia LeBouef); (6) 2:00pm: acclaimed novelist, Jincy Willett will discuss her work & sign her latest comic novel, Amy Falls Down; (7) 3:00pm: info session on local outdoor activities from Outback Adventures. The extra-special attractions for CBD will be the limited edition, specially designed books & book-related items exclusive to California independent bookstores. These items are not available for purchase anywhere else on any other day. Works from authors such as Neil Gaiman, George Saunders, Brian Selznick, Lemony Snicket, Michael Pollan, Lisa Brown and many others. Plus: All general books (except CBD items) will be 25% off all day long. Killer Street Tacos mobile food vendor will be selling tacos on Library Walk.
