The Economic Value of Immigrants, in the World and in the U.S.

The Economic Value of Immigrants, in the World and in the U.S.

Immigration has been a fundamental force shaping the U.S. economy and society for more than 100 years. Based on recent research, the lecture will look at migration trends in the world and to the U.S. during the last four decades, identifying some key facts about immigration and migrants, and discuss the effects of immigration on the U.S. economy. We will consider both migration of workers and of skilled professionals, innovators and scientists. We will conclude with a look at the recent evolutions of immigration during COVID-19, its possible consequences and some consideration of U.S. immigration policies and politics.
