21CCC Webinar: China’s Quest to Protect Its Interests Overseas

Based on his book, "Protecting China's Interests Overseas: Securitization and Foreign Policy," Andrea Ghiselli, assistant professor at the School of International Relations and Public Affairs at Fudan University, offers insights into the dynamics to foreign policy making in today's China, and to prompt considerations regarding how we understand China's rise.

Ghiselli describes how Chinese presence grew in unstable regions such as the Middle East and North Africa, analyzes how Chinese policy elites understand the protection of the interests overseas, and discuss how the Chinese government's approach to this problem evolved over time, leading to the creation of new institutions and launch of new policy initiatives. The talk will be moderated by Victor Shih.

Cosponsored by the Fudan-UC Center on Contemporary China.
