A San Diego tradition, the Luau and Legends of Surfing Invitational brings together surfers, scientists and community members to support the fight against cancer. The beachside fundraiser kicks off at 7 a.m. with a surfing tournament that pairs teams of four with a surf legend to compete in the contest. The luau follows at 11:30 a.m. with live entertainment, a tropical buffet and auctions. All proceeds benefit Moores Cancer Center at UC San Diego Health. To date the event has raised more than $7 million to help transform cancer prevention, detection and care. This year, Tyler Callaway and Jon Roseman are serving as the event co-chairs; Bob Hurley is the honorary chair. The surfing tournament is free for viewing; tickets to the luau are $200 per person and sponsorships are available.
