Nov 2, 2023–Nov 2, 2023 from 4:00pm–5:00pm
In the second talk of this year's two-part MilliporeSigma Lectureship series, 2021 Nobel Laureate in Physiology/Medicine Dr. David Julius (UCSF, Dept. of Physiology) presents, "Structural Insights into TRP Channel Gating: Visualizing a Polymodal Signal Integrator" at 4pm in the Health Sciences Education Center (HSEC) Auditorium, lower level of the Skaggs School of Pharmaceutical Sciences Bldg at UC San Diego.
Refreshments begin at 3:30pm in the HSEC lobby.
Talk description:
The capsaicin receptor, TRPV1, is a heat-activated ion channel that is modulated by numerous inflammatory and pro-algesic agents. This ability to serve as a complex polymodal signal integrator underlies the channel’s contribution to both acute and persistent pain. Elucidating structural and allosteric mechanisms underlying such polymodality is key to understanding the function and therapeutic potential of TRPV1 and other members of this diverse ion channel superfamily.
