 nd the 20th anniversary of the Asian Pacific Islander and Asian American H
 eritage Celebration Month with our Emeritus Professor\, James Lin (Math) w
 ho was a founding member of the AAPI Studies at UC San Diego.\n\nProfessor
  Lin was the driving force behind creating the minor in Asian American Stu
 dies. Back in 1985\, Asian American Studies was an unknown field\, often d
 ismissed as a political movement that would disappear.\n\nProfessor Lin ta
 ught the very first course in Asian American Studies in 1986. In 1988 he w
 as able to create the minor in Asian American Studies by convincing 9 facu
 lty of the field’s academic legitimacy. Without this accomplishment we w
 ouldn’t have an Ethnic Studies Department that can choose its own facult
 y. He will tell stories about the challenges he faced.  \n\nAll UC San Die
