The 28th Annual African and African-American Studies Research Center Awards Banquet will include the presentation of awards to undergraduate and graduate students, faculty, and staff at UCSD who have contributed significantly to African and African-American Studies this year. The event is hybrid this year. On site events begin with a cocktail hour in the Faculty Club courtyard at 5:00 pm. Online events begin at 6:00 pm when everyone moves into the Atkinson Pavilion for dinner.
Peri Klemm, Professor of African, Oceanic and Native American Art History, Cal State Northridge, will deliver the keynote "Dressing the Spirit, Shielding the Gaze: The Body in the Oromo Aesthetic System."
Music is provided by the Gene Perry and the Elimu Band.
Tickets may be purchased and donations made at this link: https://giveto.ucsd.edu/giving/home/gift-referral/AAASRC. Donations are tax deductible. Tickets are $65 ($70 day of event). Students may be sponsored for $25. Gold Star Donations begin at $560 for the purchase of a table of 8.
