African and African-American Studies Research Center 26th Annual Awards Banquet, 2020

This is a very special occasion on which we shall honor the outstanding achievements of scholars, students, and administrators who have worked with our program during this year. Our keynote speaker, Professor Preminda Jacob of the University of Maryland, Baltimore County, will also receive the Teshome H. Gabriel Distinguished Award in African Studies.

Professor Jacob's keynote address is titled, “Wall Art: A Comparative Perspective on Street Semiotics in Chennai and Lomé.” Preminda Jacob is an art historian of modern and contemporary art, specializing in the social and political aspects of public visual culture and on the history and theory of the art museum.
