Nov 21, 2019–Nov 21, 2019 from 4:00pm–5:30pm
Jinkook Lee, a research professor of economics and the director of the Program on Global Aging, Health, and Policy at the University of Southern California, will introduce the Harmonized Cognitive Aging Project (HCAP) protocol. She will explain its development across countries with different levels of socioeconomic development—first in the U.S., then in India and South Korea—and present early findings on several modifiable risk factors, including education, cardiovascular diseases and air pollution. Lee will also discuss various country’s national dementia strategies and their potential implications. Rising life expectancy is contributing to rapid increases in the size of the older population and is expected to lead to a sharp rise in dementia cases, from about 47 million people worldwide today, to potentially more than 140 million in 2050. The anticipated epidemic scale of dementia in a global aging population has led to an intensified effort to advance dementia research and care. Currently, there are 12 studies that have developed comparable cognition and dementia measures around the world, called the Harmonized Cognitive Aging Project (HCAP).
