Apr 6, 2023–Apr 6, 2023 from 4:00pm–5:30pm
Join the 21st Century China Center and UC San Diego Library for a book talk on “Assignment China: An Oral History of American Journalists in the People’s Republic,” followed by a conversation with author and journalist Mike Chinoy. The event will be moderated by Distinguished Professor Paul Pickowicz and is free and open to the public.
The China beat is one of the toughest in journalism and one of the most important. How the U.S. media has covered the country has profoundly influenced American government policy and shaped public opinion in the U.S. and around the world.
“Assignment China,” a remarkable new book by former CNN Beijing Bureau Chief Mike Chinoy, is the story of the American journalists who have covered China — from 1949 through the COVID-19 pandemic — told in their own words. PBS' Judy Woodruff described the book as "riveting reading for anyone who wants to understand China, or cares about how great reporters do their work."
This event will be held in the Seuss Room at Geisel Library. There will also be a virtual option for those who prefer to join online:
