Low density cultures to AI-native full stack platforms — evolving drug development approaches

Dr. Shields is currently Global Head of the Asset Portfolio at Recursion, overseeing the discovery, partnered and clinical asset programs — his team leads strategic positioning, competitive intelligence, asset project leadership and licensing.  Previously, David led drug discovery and translational biology teams at Pfizer Oncology, contributing to multiple assets that ultimately secured approval.  He also led pediatric oncology R&D and represented Pfizer on the first cross-pharma consortium for PedOnc.  Subsequently, David was Vice President and Head of the Centers for Therapeutic Innovation, Pfizer’s external facing unit and primary partnership bridge to academia, biotech and government entities.  David graduated with a B.Sc (Hons) from University College Cork, Ireland, completed his Ph.D at the University of Alberta, Canada and conducted post-doctoral research at The Scripps Research Center and Moores UCSD Cancer Center.
