Optimizing neoadjuvant immunoradiotherapy

Joseph A. Califano III, MD, is a board-certified otolaryngologist specializing in head and neck surgical oncology and molecular research. He focuses on minimally invasive treatment of tumors of the oral cavity, larynx, pharynx, thyroid, and neck to preserve function and appearance, with expertise in skull base, salivary gland, and premalignant conditions.

A physician-scientist, he has advanced early detection methods for HPV-related cancers using sequencing technologies. Dr. Califano has authored over 300 peer-reviewed articles, speaks internationally, and serves on major professional boards.

He joined UC San Diego Health in 2015 after Johns Hopkins, and trained at Memorial Sloan Kettering and Harvard Medical School.
