China’s Tech Strategy

View Map Free EventFrom AI and robotics to EVs and clean energy, China has used industrial policy to try to accelerate its high-tech development. Kyle Chan will discuss several structural patterns of China’s industrial policy efforts. In addition, he will talk about how China’s approach has evolved over time in response to a changing international trade environment and the growing use of technological chokepoints in geopolitical competition.

Bio:
Kyle Chan is a postdoctoral researcher in the Sociology Department at Princeton University and an adjunct researcher at the RAND Corporation. His work focuses on China’s technological development and industrial policy, with a particular emphasis on electric vehicles, clean energy, AI and robotics. Chan is currently working on a book on these same topics, and he testified as an expert on Made in China 2025 for the U.S.-China Economic and Security Review Commission.
