DESCRIPTION:Knowledge of Linux is indispensable for using advanced CI. Whil
 e GUIs are becoming more prevalent\, being able to work at the command lin
 e interface (CLI) provides the greatest power and flexibility. In this ses
 sion\, we assume that participants are already comfortable with basic Linu
 x operations such as creating\, deleting and renaming files\, and navigati
 ng between directories. Topics covered include the filesystem hierarchy\, 
 file permissions\, symbolic and hard links\, wildcards and file globbing\,
  finding commands and files\, environment variables and modules\, configur
 ation files\, aliases\, history and tips for effective Bash shell scriptin
 g.\n\n---\nCOMPLECS (COMPrehensive Learning for end-users to Effectively u
 tilize CyberinfraStructure) is a new SDSC program where training will cove
 r non-programming skills needed to effectively use supercomputers. Topics 
 include parallel computing concepts\, Linux tools and bash scripting\, sec
 urity\, batch computing\, how to get help\, data management and interactiv
 e computing. Each session offers 1 hour of instruction followed by a 30-mi

  Biography: \nYuwu Chen\, Ph.D.\, Computational & Data Science Research Sp
 ecialist\, SDSC\, received his Ph.D from Louisiana State University in che
 mical engineering with an emphasis on molecular dynamics simulation of pro
 teins. Yuwu’s key responsibility is to provide a high degree of HPC cust
 omer support and professionalism to the research communities of UCSD and o
 ther institutions. He is a Singularity user and has provided Singularity u
 ser support for HPC users since 2019.
