Dr. Arnold Gutierrez earned a BA in Biological Psychology from California State University, San Bernardino and a PhD in Neuroscience from the University of Cincinnati, College of Medicine. His doctoral training focused on the role that striatal dopamine receptors play in methamphetamine-induced learning and memory deficits. Upon completing his doctoral degree, Dr. Gutierrez began his postdoctoral training at The Scripps Research Institute in La Jolla before joining the Department of Psychiatry at UC San Diego. Dr. Gutierrez was a recipient of a UC San Diego Chancellor’s Postdoctoral Fellowship and is currently a fellow of the San Diego Institutional Research and Academic Career Development Award program. His current work in the laboratory of Dr. Michael Taffe is focused on the self-administration of opioids by vapor inhalation and on the long-term behavioral effects of repeated opioid inhalation during adolescence.  r.
