Longenecker Roth Artist in Residence

Free and open to the public Facebook Event Diedrick Brackens (b. 1989, Mexia, Texas) works in the Leimert Park neighborhood of Los Angeles. Brackens received his BFA from University of North Texas, in 2011, and MFA in textiles from California College of the Arts, in 2014. His work has been shown in solo exhibitions at The New Museum, New York (2019); Ulrich Museum of Art, Wichita (2017); Various Small Fires, Los Angeles (2019); Johansson Projects, Oakland (2015). Group exhibitions include Hammer Museum, Los Angeles(2018); SOMArts, San Francisco (2014); Berkeley Art Museum, Berkeley (2014); 3rd Ghetto Biennale, Port-au-Prince, Haiti (2013); and Museum of Geometric Art, Dallas (2011). He work is apart of various museum and private collections. Brackens is a recipient of the Joyce A. Wein Prize from the Studio Museum (2018), Brandford/Elliott Award for Excellence in Fiber Art (2018), The Barclay Simpson Award from the California College of the Arts (2014) and Clare Hart DeGolyer Memorial Fund (2011). https://www.diedrickbrackens.com The Longenecker Roth Artist in Residence Endowment was established in 2016 to extend Martha Longenecker’s legacy as an artist and educator. In the spirit of her historic impact on the visual arts in both local and global communities, this endowment brings to the Visual Arts Department of UC San Diego artists of national and international stature who will inspire our students to broaden the scope, appeal, and range of art as well as incite exchange with the faculty, the campus community and local artists and audiences.
