Everything You Wanted to Know About Replication in Industry (but were afraid to ask)

SPEAKER: Leehod Baruch Abstract: Companies have to protect their valuable data. The loss of data can cause a business damage which can sometimes be quantified with a price tag. This is one of the major considerations in the decision of which data protection method to use. Each method has different properties and requirements from the compute, network and storage infrastructure. A walk through synchronous/asynchronous continuous replication and snapshot based replication flows reveals their characteristic. The implementation details show the engineering challenge in the physical and virtual worlds and the feature richness creates opportunities for new combinations, ideas and innovations. Biography: Leehod Baruch is a consultant software engineer at the Israeli Center of Excellence of EMC corporation. He received a B.Sc. degree in computer science from the Technion—Israel Institute of Technology, Haifa, Israel, in 2005 and an M.Sc. degree in computer science from Weizmann Institute of Science, Rehovot, Israel, in 2008. Today he leads the Scale and Performance group of RecoverPoint—a data protection solution for block devices and virtual machines which supports synchronous and asynchronous continuous replication, snapshot based replication and backup. In his work he led several innovations that ripened into a new product and applied for 40 patents.
