Film Screening: A Place at the Table A recent study found “that levels of food insecurity among households with students in four-year colleges and vocational education were 11.2 and 13.5 percent, respectively, in 2015—rates that are largely similar to national levels.” In addition, 50 million Americans—1 in 4 children—don’t know where their next meal is coming from. A Place at the Table is a 2012 documentary film directed by Kristi Jacobson and Lori Silverbush, with appearances by Jeff Bridges, Raj Patel, and chef Tom Colicchio. The film tells the powerful stories of three Americans, who maintain their dignity even as they struggle just to eat, and examines how you think about the hungry. Open to the public. All are welcome. Refreshments will be served. Feel free to bring your lunch and leave early or come late to accommodate your schedule. Food Drive If you can, please bring non-perishable food donations for the UC San Diego Triton Food Pantry. They are especially looking for: canned meats (like chicken, tuna), cereal, peanut butter, and top ramen. Information about accessible parking. This event is hosted by the Library Diversity & Inclusion Committee.
