The Journal of the International Phonetic Association (JIPA) publishes documentation of sound systems of different languagesaround the world. These publications, called ‘illustrations’, are important resources for research on commonalities and patterns across languages. First-year PhD students in Linguistics at UC San Diego are researching languages that do not yet have illustrations in JIPA. Alexis Burke is researching Finnish and is looking for speakers to be language consultants for the project! Language consultants will spend ~2-5 hours sharing their experience with the language and creating audio recordings of their speech.
