Global Accessibility Awareness Day 2022

Global Accessibility Awareness Day 2022

In this highly digital world, the best way to reach our audience is to ensure that our digital environment is accessible. Be it a digital marketing campaign, online lesson, department website, email newsletter, or the program used to create the coursework, website or email, putting in effort to make these platforms accessible and easy to digest benefits everyone, not just those who have visual, hearing, motor or cognitive limitations.

This year, on Global Accessibility Awareness Day (GAAD) — a day dedicated to bringing awareness to the importance of making our digital environment accessible for all users — UC San Diego Library is hosting its annual Global Accessibility Fair on May 19, 2022.

Supported by the UC San Diego Electronic Accessibility Awareness Committee (EAOC), this year’s event focuses on the importance of recognizing “invisible” or “hidden” disabilities. According to disabled-world.com, “invisible disabilities are certain kinds of disabilities that are not immediately apparent to others. It is estimated that 10% of people in the U.S. have a medical condition which could be considered a type of invisible disability,” including cognitive and learning disabilities. In addition, the event will feature a screen reader demo by Jimmy Cong, UC San Diego’s Electronic Accessibility Specialist.

Registration is required.

Live captioning will be provided for the event.
