Jan 24, 2023–Jan 24, 2023 from 4:00pm–5:00pm
The Delta variant played a big role in the downfall of Prime Minister Suga in October 2021, and there is some concern what the winter season will bring next. China has presided over the most dramatic cycle of extreme policy rigidity and control, followed by an abrupt abandonment that unleashed a massive wave in December 2022. What explains these COVID trajectories in East Asia over time, how should we assess changes – extreme or piecemeal – in pandemic policies, and what are long-term implications of these developments?
Speakers:
Yves Tiberghien, Professor of Political Science, Konwakai Chair in Japanese Research, and Director of the Center for Japanese Research at UBC
Ulrike Schaede, Professor and Director of the Japan Forum for Innovation and Technology, UC San Diego School of Global Policy and Strategy
