IAH Film Screening: Singing Our Way to Freedom

ABOUT EVENT:

As part of the Community, Arts & Resistance event series, the Institute of Arts & Humanities (IAH) at UC San Diego invites you to a special documentary film screening and discussion. The film “Singing Our Way to Freedom” highlights the powerful story of Ramon “Chunky” Sanchez and the inspiring music of the Chicano Civil Rights Movement in San Diego. Following the event will be a special panel featuring filmmaker Dr. Paul Espinosa along with guests Dr. Estevan Azcona and Dr. Michelle Tellez, concluding with an audience question & answer session. EVENT IS FREE & OPEN TO THE PUBLIC—PLEASE RSVP ONLINE—SPACE IS LIMITED!

SCHEDULE:

  • 5:00 PM: Doors Open
  • 5:15 PM: Introduction
  • 5:30 PM: Film Screening “Singing Our Way to Freedom”
  • 7:00 PM: Discussion with Panel
  • 7:30 PM: Audience Question & Answer Session
  • 8:00 PM: Event concludes

PARKING:

The closest visitor parking is in the Hopkins Parking Structure. The closest parking for those with UC San Diego “A” or “B” parking permits, is P502. *Note all visitors must purchase a temporary parking permit at the lot, as there is no free parking on campus. (Read campus parking details). Alternatively, guests are encouraged to use a ride share service like Lyft.
