Presentations highlighting how the confluence and mobile technology, financial service innovation, and big data analytics are opening up exciting new frontiers in the struggle to improve the welfare of citizens in the developing world. Mobile phones and mobile money are revolutionizing finance and governance in some of the world’s poorest and most unstable countries. Professors Blumenstock and Callen will describe three projects in Afghanistan that investigate ways in which development engineering can be brought to bear to improve governance. The presentation highlights how the confluence of mobile technology, financial service innovation, and big data analytics are opening up exciting new frontiers in the struggle to improve the welfare of citizens and government employees in the developing world. Free and open to the public. Reception follows at 6:30pm with drinks and appetizers.
