Apr 6, 2021–Apr 6, 2021 from 4:30pm–5:30pm
The 1945-2015 geopolitical order has come unglued. The rise of China and the increasing unreliability of the United States have raised serious questions about Japan’s national security and international influence. While attention has focused primarily on Tokyo’s relations with Beijing and the capitals of East and Southeast Asia, there are more fundamental problems around the world that will disproportionately affect Japan’s ability to exert influence abroad. Join us to discuss what these tectonic shifts mean for the future of Japan in the region and around the globe.
Speakers:
• Robert Madsen, Senior Economist, David Hale Global Economics
• Ulrike Schaede, Professor and Director of the Japan Forum for Innovation and Technology, GPS UC San Diego
