The Festival of New Trumpet Music (FONT) West returns with another weeklong celebration of emerging artists and established masters on the trumpet.

This year's festival begins with a free afternoon concert featuring bands led by two of the finest trumpeters in the region: San Diego-based Curtis Taylor and Ensenada-based Ivan Trujillo.

Grammy Award-winner Curtis Taylor and his quartet play the music from his latest 2019 release, Snapshot, a collection of jazz standards and Taylor’s own compositions. His unique blend of soulfulness, harmonic sensibilities and rhythm melts together for an unforgettable sound that directly connects with the soul of the listener. 

The Ensenada-based La Covacha Big Band makes its US-debut in this concert. Founded in 2013, the 11-piece La Covacha Big Band spans a wide spectrum of the jazz repertoire, from Ellington and Basie to electronica and contemporary music. For this program for FONT West, the band will focus on the original compositions of their leader, trumpeter Ivan Trujillo, one of Baja California’s leading jazz artists.
