Marco Fusi is a violinist/violist, a researcher in music performance, and a passionate advocate for the music of our time. He will perform the U.S. premiere of a solo viola piece written by Ti McCormack (Assistant Professor of Music at UC San Diego), titled “...stretched across its axes.” The 45-minute piece presents both intense and quiet moments, with continuity of sound that changes and transforms very slowly. Commissioned by Musik der Jahrhunderte Stuttgart, the work world premiered in Feb. 2025 at the Eclat Festival in Germany.

The concert will also include two world premieres by UC San Diego graduate music composers William Kuo and Adam Zuckerman. The performance will showcase the shared interest of all three composers in the inner qualities, energies and textures of sound. Each explores what an individual instrument is capable of—particularly the viola, often overlooked as a solo instrument—presenting sounds audiences have never heard before.
