Mexico and the United States: New Challenges After Defining Elections

Mexico and the United States: New Challenges After Defining Elections

Join us on Nov. 14 for an insightful, in-person-only conference featuring Denise Dresser, a distinguished Mexican political analyst, columnist and academic.

With a qualified majority in the Chamber of Deputies and in many state and local governments, along with a near majority in the Senate, Mexican President Claudia Sheinbaum begins her term in a political landscape deeply shaped by the significant reforms of former President Andrés Manuel López Obrador — many of which have been severely criticized by Mexico’s North American partners.

Dresser will delve into the future of Mexican politics in the context of the new U.S. president-elect and the election of President Claudia Sheinbaum, highlighting the new challenges her presidency poses for the U.S. and Mexico. Commentary will be provided by Javier Aparicio, a political science professor at the Centro de Investigación y Docencia Económicas, with moderation by Catheryn Camacho, associate director of the Center for U.S.-Mexican Studies.

This event is organized by the Center for U.S.-Mexican Studies at the UC San Diego School of Global Policy and Strategy (GPS) in collaboration with CETYS Universidad and the Institute of the Americas.
