Mexico’s First Female President: Breaking Barriers or Mending Fences?

Mexico’s First Female President: Breaking Barriers or Mending Fences?

Please join us in-person only on Sept. 26 for an insightful conference featuring leading experts on Mexican democracy as they explore the key issues facing President-elect Claudia Sheinbaum on the threshold of her administration.

With a qualified majority in the Chamber of Deputies and a near majority in the Senate, Sheinbaum begins her term in a political landscape deeply shaped by the significant reforms of President Andrés Manuel López Obrador — many of which have been severely criticized by Mexico’s North American partners. The discussion will explore how these reforms, and the evolving political framework, may present both opportunities and challenges for Mexico’s first female president. Don’t miss this opportunity to gain a deeper understanding of Mexico’s near political future!

This event is organized by Center for U.S.-Mexican Studies at the UC San Diego School of Global Policy and Strategy (GPS).
