About the Program

What is Mindful Leadership and why should you care?

As a leader, you face unique pressures. Your actions impact much more than your own direct experience. Whether you have 1, 10 or 100 direct reports or you run an entire company, your ability to lead with presence, authenticity and clarity is critical to the success of your organization. This program can show you how to cultivate the very best of yourself so that you can connect with the leadership skills you already possess.

Mindfulness is a way of paying attention on purpose to the present moment. By being present, focused and aware, we can stay calm in a crisis, be resilient in the face of challenge and change, make intentional decisions and connect with people in a clear and compassionate way. Through science-based exercises, facilitated conversations and exploration of this new way of being, this experiential program teaches you how to become more mindful in your work and your life.


  • Experiencing mindfulness practice.
  • Discussion: Problems in the workplace, exploring the issues together.
  • Understanding mindfulness. What are the benefits for the executive? For the company?
  • Performance under pressure.
  • Stress and its impact on self and business.
  • Mindfulness and compassion in business relationships.
  • Experiential components include: seated and walking meditations, mindful eating, mindful movement, mindful communication, mindful awareness and focus.
  • Didactic exercises include: shifting perceptions, responding vs. reacting, awareness vs. auto pilot, cultivating a non-judgmental attitude, the distracted brain.
  • Discussion: Bringing mindfulness into the workplace and integration into company culture.
  • Maintaining the practice. Next steps.


This course will teach participants:

  • Why it’s so important to change the way we are working and leading
  • How to cultivate the skill of mindfulness through practices that you can begin implementing immediately

While the primary audience for this workshop is leaders in business, professionals in the field of mental health and executive coaching can also derive great benefit from the training. Therapists working from a mindfulness and acceptance framework with interpersonal, relationship and professional issues in their clients will find that this program prepares them to translate these practices into a business context.
The WorkLife Integration Program (WIP) at the University of California San Diego Center for Mindfulness is dedicated to delivering outstanding customized mindfulness resources that have a positive impact on business, individuals, and culture while integrating personal health and well-being with business success.

About the UC San Diego Center for Mindfulness

The Center for Mindfulness is a program within the UC San Diego Center for Integrative Medicine and Department of Psychiatry. The foundation of our work lies in the Mindfulness-Based Stress Reduction (MBSR) program developed by Jon Kabat-Zinn, Ph.D at the University of Massachusetts Medical School Center for Mindfulness. The profound effects of this work are strongly supported by a large body of scientific research, some of which will be shared during this workshop.

Christy Cassisa, JD
Associate Director for Operations and Development, UC San Diego Center for Mindfulness

Christy’s unique professional training includes science, education, and the law, and since discovering mindfulness meditation and experiencing the transformational effects of the practice for herself, she has made it her lifework to share it with others. Christy joined the UC San Diego Center for Mindfulness in 2013 as a volunteer, created and ran the Work-Life Integration Programs at the Center, and since then has been deeply involved in the effort to bring mindfulness to workplaces of all kinds. She currently serves the Center as the Associate Director for Operations and Development.

She has developed numerous mindfulness-based curricula and has delivered keynotes, workshops, and programs for a wide variety of organizations, including non-profits, educational institutions, law firms, and international corporations. She has also completed training to teach both Mindfulness Based Stress Reduction and Mindful Self-Compassion through the UC San Diego Mindfulness Based Professional Training Institute. As Founder and Director of her own venture, The Institute for Mindful Works, she partners with community experts to develop and deliver empirically-supported trainings to help people lead happier, healthier and more productive lives through mindfulness, emotional intelligence, and self-compassion.

Christy’s previous professional life includes coaching and consulting, as well as time served in corporate America, higher education administration, and in practicing law. Christy earned her law degree from the University of Missouri, Columbia School of Law and a BS in Life Sciences from Missouri Science & Technology, is certified to administer both the Myers Briggs Type Indicator® and the EQ-I 2.0, and is also trained as a professional coach. She lives in San Diego with her husband and two daughters, who helped lead her to mindfulness and continue to remind her every day of the challenge and joy of being present.

Shannon Jordan, M.A.
Principal/Founder, Career Ingenuity Group

Shannon Jordan is a Board Certified Coach who integrates emotional intelligence, positive psychology, strengths-based development and science-based mindfulness practices into her work with employees, leaders, teams and organizations. After spending 8 years in talent development at Qualcomm, she founded the Career Ingenuity Group to help technical professionals optimize soft skill competencies to thrive in the workplace. This year she has facilitated programs for Qualcomm, eBay, StubHub, PayPal, Genentech, Arcturus Therapeutics, AMEX, Welk Resorts, UC Irvine, Dowling & Yahnke, CalSTRS Investments Branch, and Kaiser Permanente.

Before moving into corporate work, Shannon served for 10 years as managing director of career development programs at UC San Diego Extension and for 18 years on the adjunct faculty for USD’s School of Leadership. She is a contributing author to the book Building Workforce Strength and also spent several years as an Ask-the-Expert columnist on workplace issues for

A UC alumnae, Shannon holds a B.A. in Business and an M.A. in Counseling, is a qualified Mindfulness Based Stress Reduction (MBSR) teacher, and a certified Search Inside Yourself teacher (SIY is the mindfulness program that originated at Google). She recently completed teacher training with the Potential Project, a global corporate mindfulness consultancy and facilitates the 10 week Corporate-Based Mindfulness Training program.

Shannon has traveled the world and lived in Singapore but calls Solana Beach home where she lives with her husband and teen daughter.
