Molten Landscape

Molten Landscape

Molten Landscape is a hybrid audiovisual and dance performance by multimedia artist John Burnett. Performers in this work exist within an augmented technological environment in which they traverse the spaces between their physical selves and their digital and aural representations, which is depicted through a combination of live generative projections and sound design. Within this environment, these performers explore questions of representational identity, collective consciousness, and what constitutes the individual. Identity and the physical body become subject to natural forces: evaporating into vapor, breaking into shards, and dispersing like water. This is a performance where reality itself is in constant question, constantly undergoing a process of erosion and reconstitution. John Burnett is a multimedia artist based in San Diego, California. Drawing from a background in music composition, sound design, and technology, he creates technologically augmented and reactive multimedia installation works, sound and projection design for dance and theater productions, concert works, and film scores. Most recently, John collaborated with the art collective AUDINT to create a sound installation based on the sonic attacks at the American embassy in Cuba. This work was premiered at the Gallery@Calit2 in San Diego, California and on display throughout their 2018 spring exhibition. John is a member of the Sonic Arts research team, based in the Qualcomm Institute at UC San Diego, where he researches audio spatialization and audio-visual technology. He is a graduate of Oberlin Conservatory and is currently a PhD candidate in music at UC San Diego. RSVP requested to galleryinfo@calit2.net.
