North Korea, a country of 25 million people, is one of the most secretive nations in the world; even basic statistics are treated as state secrets. Despite a high level of interest, the structure and functioning of the North Korean economy are poorly understood. In this talk, Byung-Yeon Kim, Bill Brown, and Stephan Haggard will discuss the present state of the North Korean economy, how we know about it and possible implications for the international relations of the peninsula.
