Jul 26, 2023–Jul 26, 2023 from 12:00pm–1:00pm
To celebrate UC San Diego Library’s 22nd Annual Paper Theatre Festival and current exhibit, we are offering two free performances adjacent to the exhibit, which is currently on display at The Nest in Geisel Library. The first will take place at noon on July 26 and take on the themes: Black Pioneers of La Jolla and Countdown to a Space Walk.
Black Pioneers of La Jolla: A pageant play celebrating La Jolla’s earliest homeowners and business owners, who resided in the area from approximately 1890-1930. This performance will feature the paper dolls of artist Carin Wallace and will be narrated by Director of Library Employee Services Rachel Almodovar.
Countdown to a Space Walk: This performance will feature the fanciful, otherworldly paper dolls and set-pieces of artist Ioana Patringenaru.
These small live shows will be done in the informal, fun style of the true Victorian roots of paper theatre; families re-enacted plays they had seen at local theaters, in miniature, utilizing souvenir posters kits they bought at their theater gift shop. Lots of cutting and pasting was involved!
