Nov 19, 2024–Nov 19, 2024 from 5:00pm–6:15pm
Join us for a conversation with Agustina S. Paglayan about her new book, “Raised to Obey: The Rise and Spread of Mass Education,” and learn why Nobel Laureate James Robinson says “you will never think about education the same way after reading this path-breaking and iconoclastic book.”
Paglayan will discuss how the expansion of primary education in the West emerged not from democratic ideals but from politicians’ desire to control citizens.
The future of education systems — and their ability to strengthen democracy, promote growth and reduce inequality — hinges on coming to terms with this troubling legacy.
The event is open to the public. A reception will follow.
