Gene Machine: The quest for the ribosome, the ancient and enormous molecular machine that reads our genes to make proteins.
Hear how science actually works from a Nobel laureate and former UC San Diego student, Venki Ramakrishnan, PhD as he tells the story of the race to uncover the structure of the ribosome, a fundamental discovery that resolves an ancient mystery of life itself and could lead to the development of better antibiotics to fight the most deadly diseases. He will chart his unlikely journey from his first fumbling experiments in a biology lab to being at the center of fierce competition at the cutting edge of modern science.
GENE MACHINE - The Race to Decipher the Secrets of the Ribosome will be available for purchase at the event and Dr. Ramakrishnan will be signing books immediately following the lecture.
