Remembrance & Vision: Imagining Future Monuments at UC San Diego

Remembrance & Vision: Imagining Future Monuments at UC San Diego

This exhibit presents proposed monuments created by undergraduate students in a Fall 2017 Communication seminar entitled “Politics & Culture of Display” with Professor Brian Goldfarb. During the course, students examined institutions and practices of public exhibition and display. While focusing attention on critical analysis of practices of display as a site of research, the students also engaged in alternative approaches to curatorial practice and rethinking exhibition strategies. The 10 pieces include:

  1. Facing Diversity @ UC San Diego
  2. Every 16 Minutes
  3. Humble Beginnings, Brighter Futures
  4. Loud Silence
  5. Red | White
  6. Skin & Remembrance
  7. They Were a Threat
  8. Tidal Wave Murals
  9. Unnoticed
  10. Who Rescued Who?
The exhibit is located in: Geisel Library, main floor, west wing December 11, 2017–March 23, 2018
