The Sony Connected Learning Pathway (Sony CLP) is a Fall 2021 six-week design intensive for UCSD undergraduate students co-led by the UC San Diego Design Lab and the Sony Human Factors Team. The program is designed to introduce students to the ideas of design thinking through hands-on experiences and collaborative work with students from a variety of academic disciplines, backgrounds, and perspectives. This program is ideal for students who want to learn about design thinking and are looking to get real-world experience working with industry mentors. Students with all levels of experience are welcomed, from those who are new to design thinking to those who have taken a few courses and have some project experience. This program is not a course on UI/UX, and is about applying principles of design thinking to real-world problems.

In this virtual program, students will be sorted into project teams to work on a specific Design Brief for a Sony project related to TVs or tech devices. In addition to some guided sessions, Sony mentors will work with teams throughout the six-week design intensive. Students who are accepted into the program are not directly affiliated with Sony but can be considered Sony CLP Participants. Successful completion of the Connected Learning Pathways program will be noted by Sony for participants who apply for the Sony internship after the program.

Students must be available Tuesday and Thursday from 4:00 to 5:30 PM Pacific Time from Week 1 to Week 7, and have at least 5-12 hours per week to commit to the program. The design intensive will be from Week 1 to Week 6, and teams will showcase their work Week 7. We will be selecting 20 students for this program. Teams will be a balance of students with little to no design thinking experience and students with some design thinking experience.
