Apr 8, 2017–Apr 8, 2017 from 8:00pm–10:00pm
Based on the 1906 play, ‘Spring Awakening’ is a musical that fuses traditional 19th century Germany with contemporary rock music. The show centers on voiceless adolescents seeking understanding from an oppressive “system” of adults as they explore and are confronted with the reality of taboo subjects. The show is raw, exciting and seductive (mature content). Performances will happen at 8 p.m. on Apr. 8–9 and 13–15, as well as a special matinee performance at 2 p.m. on Apr. 15, in the Mandeville Auditorium. Tickets are available through the UC San Diego Box Office. Free tickets available for the first 400 students each show. The Muir Musical was launched in 1991 by Muir College sophomore Orrin Webber as an outlet for students of all majors who are interested in musical theater. Except for one single-year hiatus, the Muir Musical has produced a full-scale Broadway musical production every year since its inception, including ‘Legally Blonde,’ ‘Into the Woods,’ ‘Cabaret,’ and more. Drawing more than 75 students from all six colleges, Muir Musical is the largest and only student-directed and produced musical theater event on campus. With a production team of 25, a 12-piece orchestra and a talented cast of actors and actresses, the Muir Musical is a premier showcase of the imagination and passion of our students.
